Taxes in Mepco Bill
Here is the list of common taxes that you usually see in the mepco bills:
FPA:
FPA in the bill refers to fuel price adjustment. To increase your knowledge, let me tell you that the price of FPA in the MEPCO bill matches the fuel prices of the retail power companies that generate electricity from kerosene etc. You see a change in the FPA within your bill when there is a fluctuation in the price of fuel. Whether the FPA is lower or higher depends on the price of fuel.
TR Surcharge:
T.R is the abbreviation for Tariff Rationalization Surcharge. It is a charge that reflects the gap between the tariff set by NEPRA, the national electric power regulatory authority, and the tariff approved by GOP, the government of Pakistan. If NEPRA’s tariff is higher than GOP’s tariff, then GOP will pay the difference as a “Subsidy” to the Distribution Company. However, if NEPRA’s tariff is lower than GOP’s tariff, then the Distribution Company will pay the difference to GOP as “Inter DISCO Tariff Rationalization Surcharge ( IDTR SUR )”. This charge is applied to balance the revenue and cost of the Distribution Company.
FC Surcharge:
FC stands for Financing Cost. It is a surcharge that the federal government has imposed on electricity consumers to recover the interest payments of the loans taken by the Power Holding Private Limited (PHL). PHL is a company that holds the debt of the power sector and borrows money from banks to pay the power producers. The FC Surcharge is 43 paisa per unit and applies to all consumer categories except lifeline domestic consumers.
Deferred Amount:
Deferred Amount: This is the amount of your electricity bill that you can either pay in the same month or postpone to a later date. You will not have to pay any extra charges for delaying the payment of the deferred amount.
QTR Tariff Adj / DMC
QTR Tariff Adj / DMC: This is the amount that reflects the changes in the fuel prices and other costs incurred by the power sector every quarter. You may see this amount added or subtracted from your bill every three months, depending on whether the actual costs are higher or lower than the estimated costs.
